Alexandre, a farmer and winegrower in the Vaucluse (department in southeastern France) , aims to reintroduce 825 trees from 32 different species across his land. The first round of planting took place during the winter of 2023–2024, during which 398 of the 825 planned trees were planted.
The first technical monitoring visit was carried out as early as November 2024 by an agroforestry technician. It was an opportunity to review the 2023–2024 planting work and preparefor the second phase scheduled for the winter of 2024–2025. Despite a slightly late start to the initial planting, the results have proved extremely positive: 89% of the trees from the first season successfully took root, and the particularly rainy year of 2024 boosted strong root development. Certain species, such as coronillas, tamarisks, laurustinus, sea buckthorns, and hawthorns, have proven especially vigorous.
Learning from the first season, Alexandre improved the planting conditions for the winter of 2024–2025: higher-quality plants were ordered earlier and planting brought forward to December 2024. Furthermore, a drip irrigation system was installed beneath the mulch to protect the pipes from sun exposure.
In total, Alexandre has planted 898 young trees and shrubs, carefully replacing any that failed to survive the first season. Today, 853 plants are thriving across his land!
Planting planned as part of the project is now complete. The next technical monitoring visit is scheduled for the autumn of 2025, but already, thanks to Alexandre’s commitment and your valuable support, the future of the plantation looks extremely promising.
