Loire-Atlantique department of France, November 2025
Thanks to your support, the agroforestry project led by Jérémy in Pannecé (Loire-Atlantique) has achieved outstanding results. In 2021, with support from A Tree for You and the French Agroforestry Association, 1.4km of hedgerows were planted on his organic farm, representing 1,176 fruit-bearing, native, and windbreak trees and shrubs.
The aim was clear: integrate trees into cereal fields in order to diversify production, enhance soil life, strengthen biodiversity, protect crops from wind and during heatwaves, and contribute to carbon storage.
This project is part of a wider agroecological approach developed on the farm over several years, whereby no chemical fertilisers or pesticides are used.

A project delivering all its promises
Four years after planting, the results are extremely positive. The survival rate has reached 100%, thanks to the systematic replacement of any plants that fail to survive. Local species such as field elm, elderberry, hawthorn, and willows are proving extremely robust. Natural regeneration has also played an important role, with spontaneous oak seedlings naturally enriching the hedgerow.
Thanks to protective measures introduced right from the start, especially the use of geotextile mulch, the young trees have withstood periods of drought, including the intense heatwaves of 2022 and 2025.
In response to significant pressure from wildlife, roe deer in particular, specific interventions were recommended: cutting back certain trees, formative pruning of tall-growing species, and managing shoots on fruit trees. Additional sowing of local species in autumn 2025 will further reinforce the hedgerows.
“Today, I am completely satisfied with this first agroforestry project. I even plan to continue planting on my own land, which proves to me the effectiveness and value of this approach. Thank you very much for your support,” says Jérémy.
A farm committed to living ecosystems
Jérémy’s farm is a model of future-oriented, small-scale agriculture: grass-based livestock farming, full feed autonomy, nutritious forage grown on the farm, and direct sales to promote local value.
For the farm, this project marks an important step towards strengthening its resilience, improving its agricultural landscape, and sustainabily enriching its ecosystem.

Your contribution matters
As the project comes to an end, please remember that your support enables committed farmers to take real action for more vibrant landscapes, healthier soils, richer biodiversity, and farming systems capable of withstanding climate change.
Every tree planted is a promise for the future. Thank you for making this possible!
