Borneo, Malaysia, February 2026
A few months after the severe floods that had disrupted restoration activities in Lower Kinabatangan, the reforestation project supported by A Tree for You’s donors is now off to a strong and promising start in Borneo. Since the project officially launched six months ago, the local community has shown great determination, working across three key restoration sites in the Lower Kinabatangan region, in the heart of Borneo.

Tangible progress across three restoration sites
The work carried out on the ground is already delivering extremely encouraging results:
- Laab Swamp 5.0 (two hectares): site demarcation and preparation are fully completed. Planting activities have also finished, with 5,756 trees already planted.
- Tungog 1.0 (one hectare): site demarcation and preparation are also complete. Planting is ongoing, with 897 trees in the ground to date.
- Kaboi Stumping 5.0 (four hectares): demarcation and preparation have been completed on two of the four planned hectares. To date, 4,575 trees have already been planted, while work continues on the remaining area.

A first milestone
As of 31 December 2025, a total of 11,228 trees have been planted, representing 42% of the overall target, across a restored area of 4.5 hectares. The project’s goals remain unchanged:
- Restoration of an additional 9.5 hectares
- Planting a further 15,567 trees
These activities are planned for 2026, with the aim of fully meeting the project’s overall ecological restoration objectives.
Heartfelt thanks to the project supporters
These first achievements would not have been possible without the ongoing commitment of local communities and the invaluable support of A Tree for You’s donors. Your engagement is directly helping make the Kinabatangan forest more resilient – for the benefit of Borneo’s exceptional biodiversity and the communities who depend on it.
Together, we are bringing forests back to life and building a more sustainable future for Kinabatangan.
