  Introducing fruit trees to plots of land with cereal crops, in the Loire-Atlantique department of France

  Jérémy, an arable and livestock farmer in the Loire-Atlantique region, strongly believes that to reap all the benefits from agricultural systems trees must be restored. Planting 1,000 trees on these plots will protect his crops from the wind, create a microclimate, and enhance the surrounding biodiversity.

  Agroforestry system in pasture meadows, Ille-et-Vilaine department of France

  Loïc and Jean-Philippe, two dairy farmers from Brittany, wish to turn to agroforestry and plant trees in the middle of a plot of grassland grazed by dairy cows. Planting 269 trees on this piece of land will help the farm adapt to climate change, diversify biodiversity, fertilise the soil, and store carbon in the trees and soil.

  Participatory reforestation in the Ecuadorian Amazon, Tena 2021

  This new project in Tena seeks to reforest spoiled areas with 11,200 trees. The sustainable agroforestry model being implemented is helping improve the quality of life for Kichwas while protecting the adjacent primary forest. This initiative is a response to the issue of biodiversity loss. It is carrying on from previous projects focused on planting valuable trees in Tena.

  Planting hedgerows around an agroforestry plot, Vienne, France

  Guillaume, a farmer in the Vienne, for many years led an experimental station that tested introducing trees into the farming. Today he is keen to plant hedgerows around his agroforestry plot, which produces fodder to feed the flock of a neighbouring shepherd as well as aromatic plants. Planting 605 trees around the plot will enrich biodiversity, improve soil fertility, and serve as an example of a more sustainable agricultural model for other farmers to follow.

  Agroforestry, forestry and market gardening in 10 villages on the shores of Lake Togo

  The population around Lake Togo is made up of farmers, fishermen and -women. This area is under strong demographic pressure and facing major ecological and social changes – deterioration of plant life, serious soil erosion and increased poverty among the local population. Planting 100,000 trees in 10 villages and introducing market gardening will preserve biodiversity and improve crop yields, as well as boosting fishing by tackling soil erosion and stabilising the lakeshore.
