Structural Costs of A Tree for You

The functions carried out by A Tree for You are divided into three categories:

  1. The social mission of tree-planting projects.
  2. Fundraising to finance the projects and seeking partners to promote the donation scheme.
  3. Statutory operation of the association: preparing the documents and participating in the association’s decision-making bodies (executive committee, board of directors, general meeting).

‘Structural costs’ concern the latter two categories, those that are not directly attributable to the planting projects yet vital to the future of the association and its good governance.

By focusing on a narrow mission – selecting, financing and establishing long-term plantations – A Tree for You channels more effort into its social mission.

In 2023, overall running costs accounted for 1.6% of total expenditure for the year, and fundraising and distribution costs 3.6%.

Structural costs are met by several sources.

The association receives direct donations from some of its corporate sponsors and, in some years, subsidies from the public authorities to cover these costs.

In addition, 7% of each donation collected and earmarked for a planting project goes towards A Tree for You‘s overheads.

The association also receives interest from investments in term accounts and bank savings accounts.

Finally, as a last resort, part of the monthly donations collected from donors can be used to cover these costs, if the other sources are expected to be insufficient.
