Planting on Guillaume’s land took place over two days: the first in December 2020, the second in February 2021. The latter involved children from Lavoux primary school and technical support from Prom’haies. A total of 605 trees were planted.
The project aims to plant hedges arround and on the plot producing aromatic plants, crops, and fodder. The diversity of species (more than 30) will ensure the hedges are resilient to climate change and boost biodiversity on the piece of land.
Despite rain showers in December, planting and installing tree protection took place in the dry. Guillaume first planted 400 metres of hedging by himself. For the second day, he was keen to share his project with children from the local primary school. That’s why, last February, 50 metres of hedging were planted with 20 curious and attentive children. A beautiful day rich in exchange and sharing, good humour and enthusiasm.
Following this visit, Guillaume is considering putting up a poster board somewhere along the edge of the plot to acknowledge the involvement of the school and provide information about the plantation.
In the coming months, work will mainly involve installing more tree protection, electric fencing in particular, to prevent damage from deer. In the medium and long term, in addition to farming produce (aromatic plants, cereals, fodder), thanks to the trees the plot will produce fruit, wood fuel, and timber. Furthermore, all year long, the plot provide shelter for animals where no phytosanitary treatment is used.
But right now, Guillaume is rightly celebrating the work completed so far!
