In the communal forest of Wegscheid, certain plots are mainly made up of fir and spruce species. Since 2018, these species have suffered from drought and successive attacks from bark beetles. The project aims to replace the diseased spruce trees in Wegscheid forest with a diversity of species more resilient to climate change. This initiative includes an important educational component, too, by involving schoolchildren from the local community. A total of 4,260 trees of nine different species will be planted during two waves of planting.

The environmental objective is to reinforce the forest’s resilience to climate change and maintain its ecological functions relating to soil, water, biodiversity, and carbon. The project also has a strong social component, raising awareness among younger generations about the importance of preserving the forest.
